About PRSA-New York

The New York Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA-NY), organized in 1947, is a founding chapter of the PRSA, the world's largest professional organization for public relations practitioners. The Chapter provides services to members in business and industry, counseling firms, government, associations, hospitals, schools, professional services firms, and nonprofit organizations. We also support PRSSA organizations at local universities.

The mission of the New York Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America is to lead, educate, connect, mentor, and inspire public relations and communications professionals at all levels to advance their knowledge, skills, and careers. The Chapter holds more than twenty events a year, with something for everyone, including regular networking events, themed "meet the media" programs, skills workshops, and special events such as industry roundtables and discussions with senior industry leaders.

The chapter also hosts a variety of special programs and events, such as:

  • The annual Big Apple Awards competition

  • The Mentoring Program which helps senior people serve as a source of advice and information

  • The Professional Partners Program offers unique opportunities for suppliers to support the Chapter as they grow their businesses

  • The Career Center helps match employers and job seekers throughout the tri-state area

About the Role

The Professional Administrator works closely with Board of Directors and committees to inform, assess and address all matters that advance and impact the organization. All qualified candidates should email their resumes to info@prsany.org for consideration.

  • Oversees the daily operations of the organization, providing executive administration of all program strategy, compliance, quality assurance, and program efficiencies

  • Identifies and implements volunteering and resourcing requirements to establish efficient operations and drive the organization’s mission

  • Represents the organization as an operational liaison with membership, other industry organizations, suppliers, consultants, Board members and PRSA National

  • In close collaboration with committees, develops actionable plans for sponsorships and programs

  • Manages monthly cash flow and ensures that the organization fully complies with all federal, state, and local laws


Daily and Monthly Responsibilities

  • Works with chapter president and secretary to schedule and manage Board meetings

  • Works with committee heads to schedule and manage in-person and live events

  • Works with chapter treasurer to maintain books in Quickbooks, invoice customers, collect payments, pay bills, and reports against chapter budget on a monthly basis

  • Maintains and updates our website and social channels as needed

  • Actively maintains our membership data and member database

  • Sets up event registrations and collects payments

  • Sets up and sends e-blasts with content provided by committees

  • Updates the chapter membership contact list in MailChimp

  • Work closely with the Big Apple committee and consultants to support the logistics and other details of the event


Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 7+ years of senior management experience, preferably with a nonprofit

  • Strong public relations, marketing, and fundraising experience

  • Knowledge of leadership and management principles related to nonprofits

  • Proven success working with a board of directors

  • Entrepreneurial mindset, with an innovative approach to organizational planning

  • Dynamic and charismatic team player

  • Experience managing budgets, social platforms, Excel and MailChimp

  • Exceptional verbal, written, and visual communication skills

Title, Term, Location, Compensation

  • January 1, 2022 - December 31, 2022

  • Contract employee (1099)

  • One year commitment with the option to renew

  • Average 20 hours/week

  • Remote working. In-person attendance is required at Board meetings and certain events as directed

  • Salary range: Commensurate with experience
