Intern, Corporate Communications - Winter/Spring 2021

Location: Lake Forest, IL

Job type: This is an internship that will start at the beginning of 2021 for the Winter/Spring semester. The team is ideally looking for candidates who can work at least 20 hours per week.

Role Summary:

The corporate communications team is looking for a highly motivated, creative and organized communications intern.  This position is suited for candidates looking to gain a broader understanding of communications roles within an organization and is ideal for those interested in content creation and messaging, Candidate should have excellent oral and interpersonal communication skills, as well as strong writing and social media aptitude.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the strategic development, implementation and management of integrated communications and media to help drive business priorities

  • Assist in the development and execution of PR campaigns

  • Help interview, write articles, post stories and brainstorm new ideas for company intranet

  • Conceptualize and create visually compelling content for social media posts, intranet and other company communications

  • Assist in maintaining social media, intranet and communications calendars

  • Assist in producing internal and external company videos

  • Anticipate, identify and report trends in media that impact Horizon operations

  • Engage with multiple business units

  • Participate in ad hoc projects and tasks as needed

  • Complete and present a milestone project that addresses current topics in the industry

Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • Declared major in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing or related field required

  • Currently attending or just graduated from a 4-year undergraduate program, or working towards a Master's degree in related field

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0

  • Forward thinker, responsive and creative

  • Professional demeanor

  • Self-starter attitude

  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to fast changing business priorities

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

  • Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign or similar software

  • Writing samples will be required
